The SEAS Scholars Program is a four-year scholarship initiative developed to increase the number of career-ready engineers graduating from Southern University. At its core it is a cohort of high-achieving students who matriculate together.

Our premise: like-minded students, outstanding outcomes

When like-minded students work closely together, positive peer pressure produces outstanding outcomes. Scholars receive more than tuition support.

Alumni mentorship
A support network of Southern University engineering alumni professionals mentors each student. Mentors and mentees are matched on background, interests, and goals, and the commitment lasts for the duration of the student's matriculation.
SEAS Annual Engineering Reunion
The SEAS Annual Experience brings together scholars, engineering alumni, companies, and the community for a fun and educational experience.
Professional development and academic support
Ongoing programming keeps scholars on pace academically while preparing them for internships and full-time engineering roles.

Scholarship information

Two named engineering scholarships

Successful candidates are awarded the scholarship that best fits their needs. Awards are renewable up to eight semesters provided the student earns 30 semester credit hours per academic year with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (3.2 for Thurman recipients), aligned with the applicable engineering curriculum.

Up to $10,000 per academic year

M. Q. Burrell Engineering Scholarship

· Covers tuition and mandatory fees
· Out-of-state fees waived for non-Louisiana residents
· Louisiana TOPS recipients receive a $1,000/year stipend

Criteria

· Recent high school graduate (within 12 months)
· Minimum 3.20 cumulative high school GPA (4.0 scale)
· Minimum SAT 1190 or ACT 24 composite
· Minimum Math SAT 590 or Math ACT 24

Up to $10,000 per academic year

Henry Thurman Engineering Scholarship

· Covers tuition and mandatory fees
· Additional funding for campus housing, meals, and books

Criteria

· Recent high school graduate (within 12 months)
· Minimum 3.50 cumulative high school GPA (4.0 scale)
· Minimum SAT 1260 or ACT 26 composite
· Minimum Math SAT 620 or Math ACT 26

Total award amounts may come from multiple scholarship sources (for example presidential awards), so the actual SEAS scholarship award may be adjusted to satisfy federal and state guidelines.
